Stronger action needed on climate change

“Haven’t you worked it out yet? This government doesn’t really care about climate change. We are all going to die…”

This current Australian government doesn’t speak for me. Let me make this clear. Just because they get elected doesn’t mean any government minister can do anything in my name. Dismantling most of the statutory bodies set up to tackle climate change is mischievous at best and malicious at worst.

The Climate Change Authority has just released its final report on Australia’s emissions targets for the future. For a summary of this report, read it here. I urge everyone to read it.

The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) has set up a website so that anyone can easily write a letter to their local MP. Go here to encourage them to speak up more strongly on climate change on your behalf.

We can all do our bit to reduce the impact of climate change in spite of the government. Use energy more efficiently, consume less (even food, if you think you are overweight 🙂 ) and grow more plants. Go join a demonstration, if you feel like it. Get Greenpower electricity, boycott polluting and unsustainable goods and practices, spread the word to friends and colleagues. Etc.

Just don’t sit there and do nothing.
